Friends Of Hollis Creek

A group of people interested in water quality and quality of life issues is forming in Starkville Mississippi. We currently do not have a leader, board of directors or a mission statement. From talking to various interested parties, I can say that generally the members are interested in protecting Hollis Creek, which drains the much of the southern parts of Starkville. The group is particularly interested in making improvements to the section of the stream that runs near the local high school. A general goal is a protective buffer of some kind which could include a greenway or path.

I have been interested in local watersheds ever since taking a class in watershed management at Mississippi State University. Here is a series of maps showing Hollis Creek in context of its watershed and Mississippi river basins. I created these using ArcMap software and data found at the Mississippi Automated Resource Information System (MARIS). Click on the images and they will open much larger. More images are on the way.
